About the Station

All municipal solid waste collected in the City of Key West is processed at the Transfer Station.  Garbage is transported to the Solid Waste Authority of West Palm Beach Renewable Energy Facility via the City's contractor, Waste Management of Florida, Inc. Recyclables are transported to the Reuter Disposal and Processing Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida.  Yard waste is hauled to a mulching facility in Bonita Springs, Florida.

How to Separate Waste

The Transfer Station does not take mixed loads.  Customers carrying mixed loads will be directed by the scale attendant to unload the items in different locations on the property and weigh in and out for each material.  The Transfer Station accepts yard waste, construction debris, recycling, and metal.  City of Key West businesses must use Waste Management, Inc. to transport garbage and it must be separated from metals and yard waste.  Residents may bring household garbage and yard waste to the facility, where a tipping fee will be charged.  We accept residential Recycling at no charge.

Electronics & Household Appliances

We DO NOT accept end-of-life electronics or household chemicals at this facility.  Loads with these materials will be denied.  For chemicals and electronics, we have a Free Drop Off once a month on the first Saturday of the month at Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park, 1801 White Street, from 8:00 AM to Noon for City of Key West residents only.

Monroe County residents and businesses can go to any Monroe County Transfer Stations.  For more information about Monroe County HHW program, call (305) 745-4307.
