Updates to Bahama Village - 3.2 Acre Development

08/06/2020

Dear Bahama Village Community Members,

I writing to you on behalf of City Manager, Patti McLauchlin, and am pleased to inform you that we are taking positive steps forward with the 3.2 acres affordable housing project. We hired a consultant to help us with the proposal for developers (RFP) and selection process. The RFP is the first step in the process. It is a document that describes our desired, yet realistic goals for the project. Developers can then submit a proposal to us based on that information. The RFP has to be very clear in order to get strong proposals.

The consultant who will be working with us on the process is Juanita Jones from the Florida Housing Coalition. The organization has an excellent reputation on affordable housing and racial equity throughout Florida. Ms. Jones has 25 years of experience, and has worked for Monroe County.

We hope to have a draft of the RFP by the end of August. At that point, we’ll organize another meeting in Bahama Village to share the draft and receive your input. We’ll then be ready to advertise it, and begin receiving proposals.

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (305) 923-3348 or Planning Director Katie Halloran at (305) 809-3746.

This project is extremely important to our City Manager, and we will continue to ensure that the process is thorough and inclusive.

Thanks so much for your continued involvement.  Please share this news with your neighbors and friends in Bahama Village.

Sincerely,

Elisa Levy
