A 2025 investigation by Key West Police Detectives has resulted in the arrest of a Pompano man for fraud.
Cortlin Da Von Baker, 21, was taken into custody after an extensive investigation into a $5,000 fraud case that occurred within the City of Key West. Over the course of a year-long investigation, Criminal Investigations Detectives secured financial records and followed multiple investigative leads, ultimately establishing probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Baker, a resident of Pompano Beach. On April 14th Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect allegedly altered a $15 check to over $5,000 and altered the name of the payee to read Baker’s name.
Baker is charged with two felonies: grand theft and uttering a forged instrument. He is being held on $35,000 bail.
“The Key West Police Department commends the cooperation and assistance of the Broward Sheriff’s Office,” said Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg, “in bringing this case to a successful resolution. It’s another fine example of the great partnerships between law enforcement agencies in South Florida. And it’s a reminder that the men and women of the Key West Police Department remain committed to thoroughly investigating crimes and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors.”
