Key West Business Guild

The Key West Business Guild (KWBG) is a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting Key West to LGBTQ+ travelers. We provide comprehensive information about Gay Key West and promote our member organizations to a national and international travel market. This work helps to attract about 250,000 LGBTQ+ travelers here each year, earning Key West the well-deserved reputation as one of the most appealing gay-friendly destinations in the world. The Guild was formed in 1978 to encourage summer tourism and support Key West’s gay community. The KWBG is the nation’s first LGBTQ+ destination marketing organization. From a small original membership, it has grown to include more than 475 enterprises representing virtually every facet of the island’s business community.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season Awareness

Sea turtle nesting season is from March 1 to October 31 (Atlantic) or May 1 to October 31 (Gulf). During this time, Key West residents and visitors may enjoy the beauty of watching baby sea turtle hatchlings in their natural habitat.

1. How You Can Help Hatchlings

   One warm August night, baby turtles hatched on Smather's Beach. The plight of these hatchlings gave a graphic reminder that lights near the beach need to be turtle-safe or off during hatching season.

2. Prohibited Activities

   Learn about which activities are prohibited to protect sea turtles.

3. Protection from Predation

   Predatory species are not allowed to roam during nesting season.

4. Standards for Exterior Artificial Lighting

   To prevent exterior artificial lighting from illuminating the jurisdictional boundaries or adjacent waters during the nesting season, measures shall be taken to reduce or eliminate the negative effects of new or existing artificial lighting.

5. Standards for Interior Artificial Lighting

   To prevent interior artificial lighting from illuminating the jurisdictional boundaries or adjacent waters during the nesting season, measures shall be taken to reduce or eliminate the negative effects of new or existing interior light emanating from doors and windows.
