Key West Fire Chief Alan Averette, along with Deputy Fire Chief Ed Perez, presented firefighter Hilary Matas a plaque in honor of her ten years of dedicated service to the department.

“Matas began her career with the fire department on May 24, 2016, and has become a devoted and highly respected member of our organization,” said Chief Averette. “Throughout her tenure, she has consistently demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and dedication, serving as both a role model and mentor to others within the department.”

Matas currently serves as a Paramedic and is an active member of both the Dive Team and Hazardous Materials Team. In addition to her operational responsibilities, she serves as a Board Member for the Key West Firehouse Museum and is the Vice President of IAFF Local 1424.

“During her time with the department,” said the Chief, “Hilary has taken a leading role in reconstructing and strengthening the department’s Honor Guard Program, helping preserve the traditions, pride, and professionalism of the fire service. Her dedication to the department and the community continues to positively impact those around her and reflects the core values of the fire service.”
