The honor was presented by Transit Director Rogelio Hernandez.

“Your dedication as a bus driver reflects the very best of our team,” said Hernandez. “Vertus has driven over half a million miles. He currently operates the bus on the Lower Keys Shuttle, driving 320 miles per day, 1,280 miles per week, and close to 60,000 miles a year. If he keeps this up, he will be well over a million miles before he retires.”

Vertus previously received the Operator of the Quarter Award.

“And did I mention,” asked Hernandez, “that during all this time he has had no major accidents? Driving buses is not easy; he just makes it look that way.”
