2026 Municipal Election

Election Information

Elections for a City Commission seat in the City of Key West are held in even-numbered years on the date established by the Florida Election Code for the national primary election.  Any run-off election is held during the national general election in November.

Key West has six single-member districts, each represented by a commissioner, and a mayor who runs at large and represents the entire city.  The mayor's term is two years, and each commissioner serves a four-year term.  Municipal elections are non-partisan.

This upcoming election is for the following City of Key West Commission seats:

  • Mayor of Key West

  • City Commissioner, District II

  • City Commissioner, District IV

  • City Commissioner, District V

Important Dates for City of Key West Elections

  • Early Voting for Primary Election:
    • August 3-August 15, 2026, daily 8:30 AM-5:00 PM at the Supervisor of Elections.
  • Primary Election: August 18, 2026, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM at your Polling Place.

General: Books Close on October 5, 2026

  • Petition amount required for each seat on the City Commission: 
    • Mayor-137 Petitions.
    • City Commissioner District II - 15 Petitions.
    • City Commissioner District IV - 27 Petitions.
    • City Commissioner District V - 24 Petitions.
  • Last Day to submit petitions for verification:

Qualifying Week for candidates:

  • Begins at 12 noon on Monday, June 8, 2026.
  • Ends at 12 noon on Friday, June 12, 2026.
