Building Permit Requirements

A building permit is required prior to any work or construction of any kind, permanent or temporary, that has a value greater than $1,000 including materials and labor at the discretion of the building official.

Building Permit Application Procedures

Starting January 1, 2025, the Key West Building Department will no longer accept incomplete building permit applications. Please refer to the checklists below to ensure that all required documentation is included with your application. For any applications for exterior work within the Historic District, a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) is required as part of the building permit application submittal.
