The City of Key West Planning Board hears a spectrum of important public planning issues, ranging from specific development approval requests to Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations changes. In 2008, the City Commission increased the Board's membership to seven, with each City Commissioner appointing one member. To become a volunteer to serve on the Planning Board, the interested person is required to be a resident of the City of Key West.
Depending on the nature of the land development regulatory activity or proposed ordinance, the Planning Board serves in an advisory capacity, making recommendations to the City Commission or making decisions that are final in nature and subject to appeal to the City Commission or a court of law.
