About the Board
The City of Key West Planning Board hears a spectrum of important public planning issues, ranging from specific development approval requests to changes to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. In 2008, the City Commission enlarged the membership of the Board to seven members, with each City Commissioner appointing one member each. To become a volunteer to serve on the Planning Board, the interested person is required to be a resident of the City of Key West. At the same time, the Planning Board took on additional responsibilities, including hearings for most types of variances.
Visual Presentations for Agendas
All Visual Presentations for Agenda items must be received by the Clerk of the Board twenty-four hours prior to the start of the meeting.
Depending on the nature of the land development regulatory activity or proposed ordinance, the Planning Board serves in an advisory capacity making recommendations to the City Commission, or makes decisions final in nature, subject to appeal either to the City Commission or court of law.
The City Planner and the Planning Department staff provide support and technical advice and recommendations to the Planning Board.
