The Key West City Commission, in a 5-2 vote, approved the budget for fiscal 2021/2022 during the final public hearing on Thursday.

The ordinance sets the millage rate at 2.136 mills, which translates to $2.14 per thousand dollars of assessed property value.

Finance Director Mark Finigan pointed out that homesteaded properties are protected by the Save Our Homes Act cap of 3 percent or cost of living increase, whichever is less.

“This is a robust budget,” said City Manager Patti McLauchlin. “that allows us to move forward with the community’s priorities as laid out in our strategic plan. And it allows us to bring our employees up to competitive pay levels, as defined through the recent Evergreen study. This combination means the community can look forward to a productive year.”
