During this week's meeting, the Key West City Commission and Mayor Teri Johnston joined First State Bank President Karen Sharp in commending the Key West Police Department for its response to a recent bank robbery.

On December 15th, police and detectives responded to First State Bank for a reported bank robbery. A description of the suspect was provided to law enforcement. In less than fifteen minutes, Key West Police located the suspect, Alphonso Woods, 31, entering a residence in Bahama Village. After setting a perimeter on the residence, detectives ordered Woods to come out. A few minutes later, Woods exited the residence and was arrested without incident.

"I want to commend our police department for their professionalism and compassion," said Sharp. "They were caring and compassionate and truly amazing. With their professional training and understanding and knowledge of the community, it led to a very swift apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the funds."

Sharp then presented Chief Sean Brandenburg with a check for $1,000 for the Key West Police Love Fund on behalf of the bank. The Love Fund is a non-profit organization that provides help to department members during dire circumstances.
