During the October commission meeting, Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission presented a commendation to Key West resident and activist Paul Menta.
Menta led the Key West 200-year Celebration, which included creating and installing a time capsule at Mallory Square and ended with a drone firework show in Truman Waterfront Park.
He was instrumental in setting up the “It's 5 O’clock in Key West Second Line” procession immediately after the passing of Jimmy Buffett.
Featured on the Spirit of the Florida Keys program with Chad Crawford, Menta represented Key West and our local seafood.
Menta also participated in the county's bicentennial celebration and helped create what is believed to be the world's largest Key Lime Pie with Chef Kermit Carpenter.
“Beyond Key West and the Florida Keys,” reads the commendation, "Paul headed up fundraising for Green Turtle Cay after Hurricane Dorian caused severe damage to the island in 2019 and secured Billy Currington to host a free Bahamas benefit concert."
