[ARCHIVED] Smoke Detector Donation to the Key West Fire Department

Fire Department Coin

As Fire Prevention Month wraps up, the Key West Fire Department wants to give a huge shout-out to General Manager D.J. McCarthy and Diane Schmidt of Opal Key Resort for their generous donation of smoke/CO2 detectors. The thank you also extends to Andy Strunk of Strunk Ace Hardware.

For many years now, this generous annual donation has helped the fire department provide life-saving smoke detectors to members of the community who may not be able to afford them.

Statistics show that in the US, home fires result in hundreds of deaths yearly. Tragically, a large percentage of those deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or in homes where the alarms were not functioning.

The detectors are available at the Central Fire Station #1 at 1600 North Roosevelt Blvd.
