y West is honored to have received the Historic Florida Keys Foundation's Award of Excellence for rehabilitating the Key West Aquarium.
These prestigious honors "recognize an awareness of the unique character of the Florida Keys' treasury of architecture and its significance to America's built environment,” the foundation wrote of the award. "They recognize distinguished efforts dedicated to the highest ideals and concepts of historic preservation.”
Historic Tours of America's Clinton Curry, City Manager Al Childress, and the City Historic Preservationist Enid Torregrosa accepted the honor. The Aquarium will bear the coveted Historic Preservation Star.
Fire Station #2, located on Simonton Street, also bears the ceramic star for historic preservation, which was awarded in 2015.
