[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Celebrate Earth Day with Cleanup

More than 20 volunteers, many from Publix, joined City staff this morning to clean up under the Cow Key Channel Bridge and the mangroves along North Roosevelt Blvd in honor of Earth Day.

This intrepid group filled dozens of trash bags, picked up cigarette butts to be recycled, and pulled unimaginable garbage out of the mangroves.

The City’s Solid Waste Coordinator Dee Dee Green organized the cleanup and made sure that all participants had gloves, buckets and pickers. The trash will be measured and weighed in an effort to determine how often these areas need a thorough cleanup.

The cleanup is part of the Keep Key West Beautiful campaign, which aims to involve everyone in ensuring our island stays clean and green.
