[ARCHIVED] Florida Keys Days a Success!

Back at City Hall after participating in Florida Keys Days in Tallahassee, City Manager Patti McLauchlin and Mayor Teri Johnston are calling the annual trek a success.

“It was a good opportunity to meet face-to-face with legislators and their staff to let them know how important our Keys issues are to the state,” said McLauchlin. “Today, more than ever, it’s vital that the City of Key West convey to the state the issues that are most important to the community.”

A strong contingent from Monroe County attended the event to address a variety of issues that are on the table during this legislative session.

Florida Keys Days has been an annual event for years, conceived as a means to remind legislators in the far-away capital that the Keys are an integral part of the state of Florida.

In addition to a slew of meetings, Keys leaders and residents also take the opportunity to remind folks in Tallahassee of the unique nature of the Keys, from a seafood feast to a taste of key lime pie.

“We have our lobbyists, who do a great job of making our legislative priorities clear in Tallahassee,” said McLauchlin, “but it’s good to introduce them to the leadership of the Keys.”
