Key West High School Principal Dr. Larry Schmiegel and the newly appointed Athletic Director Justin Martin gathered at the school with Key West Fire and Rescue members to personally thank them for ensuring that the Conchs did not miss a single game this school year.

The school district requires that every game of every sport is overseen by a qualified adult who can administer primary first aid care.  When the former athletic director stepped down at the beginning of the year, the Key West Fire Department filled in, covering all practices and games from August through February.

"We're thrilled to do all that we can to ensure the students can practice and play," said Fire Chief Alan Averette, who in his past has also served as a coach at the school.  "We want to welcome Justin Martin, but we are here for them whenever the school needs us."
