Offier Alyson BurnsDuring recent awards ceremony at City Hall, Deputy Chief Randy Smith presented a Chief’s Commendation to the several officers.

On December 21st an aggravated battery in progress call came in -- a woman was stabbed multiple times with a knife. Officers Frank Betz, William Howell, Alyson Burns, and Todd Stevens responded to the Angela Street scene immediately. Officers Betz and Stevens met at the scene deciding that Officer Stevens would stay with the victim to render aid and scene security and Officer Betz would look for the suspects at large. Moments later Officer Betz located both suspects and detained them, recovering the weapon. Officers Howell and Burns arrived and assisted Officer Betz. The arrests were made and for several hours the officers worked to ensure a prosecutable case.

“These officers’ dedication and devotion to duty are most heartily commended,” said Smith, “and are in keeping with the core values of the Key West Police Department.”
