During Thursday's City Commission meeting, Human Resources Director Bridget Flores honored several employees, including Transfer Station Attendant Valmus Jean D Charles, for their years of service. Charles has served the City for 20 years.
Valmus started his career with the City in 2003. He was hired as a part-time bus driver in our Department of Transportation, and in eight short months, he became a full-time bus driver. Valmus worked as a bus driver for three and a half years and then was promoted to Transfer Station Operator.
While there have been many title changes as the transfer station transitioned between the City and Waste Management, his current title is Transfer Station Attendant. Valmus has completed several training courses, including a spotter training course approved by the Florida Solid Waste Training Committee.
Valmus is part of a two-person crew at the Transfer Station. They work on holidays to keep that scale station open. When not working on Rockland Key, Valmus enjoys spending time with his family.
