About the Station

All municipal solid waste collected in the City of Key West is processed at the Transfer Station.  Garbage is transported to either the WM Okeechobee Landfill or the WM Medley Landfill & Recycling Center.  Recycling is transported to the WM Recycling facility in Pembroke Pines, FL.  Yard Waste is transported to either Barry Recycling in Bonita Springs or the WM Medley Landfill & Recycling Center.

How to Separate Waste

The Transfer Station does not take mixed loads.  Customers carrying mixed loads will be directed by the scale attendant to unload the items in different locations on the property and weigh in and out for each material.  The Transfer Station accepts yard waste, construction debris, Recycling, and metal.  City of Key West businesses must use Waste Management, Inc. to transport Garbage and separate it from metals and yard waste.  Residents may bring household garbage and yard waste to the facility, where a tipping fee will be charged.  We accept residential recycling for a fee.

Electronics & Household Appliances

We DO NOT accept end-of-life electronics or household chemicals at this facility.  Loads with these materials will be denied.  For chemicals and electronics, we have a Free drop-off once a month on the first Saturday at Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park, 1801 White Street, from 8:00 AM to Noon for City of Key West residents only

Monroe County residents and businesses can go to any Monroe County Transfer Station.  For more information about the Monroe County HHW program, call (305) 745-4307.
