Specific parcels of land located within the City of Key West have been judicially designated as potential habitats for up to three endangered species: the Eastern Indigo Snake, Stock Island Tree Snail, and Keys Tree Cactus.  Development permits for these parcels require local assessment of endangered species' habitats before issuance.  In instances where development activities impact such habitats, the City must refer the proposal to the United States Wildlife Service for review.
